The Snapp, 2017
The Snapp is a mobile-phone application that translates the gesture of finger-snapping from a common human motion into a digital tool. As social media creates a need for constant feedback and response, the physical gesture of snapping has reemerged as an offline community ritual among many social circuits. In capturing this signal as a mobile app and digitizing the gesture into a 3D emoji animation, The Snapp highlights the uniquely late-capitalist phenomenon in which robotized and outsourced services of civil resistance are provided by the very systems of control that govern and survey human interaction.
